1. Лондон – London /ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames in the south east of the island of Great Britain and it was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. Londons ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1. 12-square-mile medieval boundaries. London is a global city in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism. It is crowned as the worlds largest financial centre and has the fifth- or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP in the world, London is a world cultural capital. It is the worlds most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the worlds largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic, London is the worlds leading investment destination, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. Londons universities form the largest concentration of education institutes in Europe. In 2012, London became the first city to have hosted the modern Summer Olympic Games three times, London has a diverse range of people and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken in the region. Its estimated mid-2015 municipal population was 8,673,713, the largest of any city in the European Union, Londons urban area is the second most populous in the EU, after Paris, with 9,787,426 inhabitants at the 2011 census. The citys metropolitan area is the most populous in the EU with 13,879,757 inhabitants, the city-region therefore has a similar land area and population to that of the New York metropolitan area. London was the worlds most populous city from around 1831 to 1925, Other famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Pauls Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and The Shard. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world, the etymology of London is uncertain. It is an ancient name, found in sources from the 2nd century and it is recorded c.121 as Londinium, which points to Romano-British origin, and hand-written Roman tablets recovered in the city originating from AD 65/70-80 include the word Londinio. The earliest attempted explanation, now disregarded, is attributed to Geoffrey of Monmouth in Historia Regum Britanniae and this had it that the name originated from a supposed King Lud, who had allegedly taken over the city and named it Kaerlud. From 1898, it was accepted that the name was of Celtic origin and meant place belonging to a man called *Londinos. The ultimate difficulty lies in reconciling the Latin form Londinium with the modern Welsh Llundain, which should demand a form *lōndinion, from earlier *loundiniom. The possibility cannot be ruled out that the Welsh name was borrowed back in from English at a later date, and thus cannot be used as a basis from which to reconstruct the original name. Until 1889, the name London officially applied only to the City of London, two recent discoveries indicate probable very early settlements near the Thames in the London area

2. Великобритания – The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom or Britain, is a sovereign country in western Europe. Lying off the north-western coast of the European mainland, the United Kingdom includes the island of Great Britain, Northern Ireland is the only part of the United Kingdom that shares a land border with another sovereign state‍—‌the Republic of Ireland. The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland, with an area of 242,500 square kilometres, the United Kingdom is the 78th-largest sovereign state in the world and the 11th-largest in Europe. It is also the 21st-most populous country, with an estimated 65.1 million inhabitants, together, this makes it the fourth-most densely populated country in the European Union. The United Kingdom is a monarchy with a parliamentary system of governance. The monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, who has reigned since 6 February 1952, other major urban areas in the United Kingdom include the regions of Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester. The United Kingdom consists of four countries—England, Scotland, Wales, the last three have devolved administrations, each with varying powers, based in their capitals, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast, respectively. The relationships among the countries of the UK have changed over time, Wales was annexed by the Kingdom of England under the Laws in Wales Acts 1535 and 1542. A treaty between England and Scotland resulted in 1707 in a unified Kingdom of Great Britain, which merged in 1801 with the Kingdom of Ireland to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Five-sixths of Ireland seceded from the UK in 1922, leaving the present formulation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, there are fourteen British Overseas Territories. These are the remnants of the British Empire which, at its height in the 1920s, British influence can be observed in the language, culture and legal systems of many of its former colonies. The United Kingdom is a country and has the worlds fifth-largest economy by nominal GDP. The UK is considered to have an economy and is categorised as very high in the Human Development Index. It was the worlds first industrialised country and the worlds foremost power during the 19th, the UK remains a great power with considerable economic, cultural, military, scientific and political influence internationally. It is a nuclear weapons state and its military expenditure ranks fourth or fifth in the world. The UK has been a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council since its first session in 1946 and it has been a leading member state of the EU and its predecessor, the European Economic Community, since 1973. However, on 23 June 2016, a referendum on the UKs membership of the EU resulted in a decision to leave. The Acts of Union 1800 united the Kingdom of Great Britain, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have devolved self-government

3. Гормли, Энтони – Sir Antony Mark David Gormley, OBE is a British sculptor. In 2008 The Daily Telegraph ranked Gormley number 4 in their list of the 100 most powerful people in British culture, Gormley grew up in a Roman Catholic family living in Hampstead Garden Suburb. He attended Ampleforth College a Benedictine boarding school in Yorkshire, before reading archaeology, anthropology and he travelled to India and Sri Lanka to learn more about Buddhism between 1971 and 1974. While at the Slade, he met Vicken Parsons, who was to become his assistant and, in 1980, his wife, Gormley said of her, For the first 15 years she was my primary assistant. She did all of the body moulding, I think there are a lot of myths that art is made by, usually, lone men. I just feel so lucky and so blessed really, that I have such a supporter, and lover. The couple have three children, a daughter and two sons, Gormleys career began with a solo exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1981. Almost all his work takes the body as its subject. Gormley describes his work as an attempt to materialise the place at the side of appearance where we all live. Many of his works are based on moulds taken from his own body, or the closest experience of matter that I will ever have and the only part of the material world that I live inside. His work attempts to treat the body not as an object but a place, the work is not symbolic but indexical – a trace of a real event of a real body in time. The 2006 Sydney Biennale featured Gormleys Asian Field, an installation of 180,000 small clay figurines crafted by 350 Chinese villagers in five days from 100 tons of red clay, the appropriation of others works caused minor controversy and some of the figurines were stolen in protest. Also in 2006, the burning of Gormleys 25-metre high The Waste Man formed the zenith of the Margate Exodus, in this process of looking and finding, or looking and seeking, one perhaps re-assess ones own position in the world and becomes aware of ones status of embedment. In July 2009, Gormley presented One & Other, a Fourth Plinth commission and this living art happening initially attracted much media attention. It even became a topic of discussion on the long-running BBC radio drama series The Archers, in 2012, Gormley began making sculptures that could be termed as digital-cubism. Through solid steel cubes the human form is rendered into an array of different postures and poses, in March 2014 Gormley appeared in the BBC Four series What Do Artists Do All Day. In an episode which followed him and his team in their Kings Cross studio, the work was shown at the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern. In May 2015 five life-sized sculptures, Land, were placed near the centre and they are at Lowsonford, Lundy, Saddell Bay, the Martello Tower, and Clavell Tower

4. Гринвич (полуостров) – Greenwich Peninsula is an area of south-east London, England, located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The peninsula is bounded on three sides by a loop of the Thames, between the Isle of Dogs to the west and Silvertown to the east, to the south is the rest of Greenwich, to the south-east is Charlton. The peninsula lies within the Royal Borough of Greenwich and this should not be confused with North Greenwich on the Isle of Dogs, at the north side of a former ferry from Greenwich. The peninsulas northernmost point on the riverside is known as Blackwall Point, landmarks include The Dome and the southern end of the Blackwall Tunnel, but the area is now being substantially redeveloped with new homes, offices, schools, a college and parks. The peninsula was drained by Dutch engineers in the 16th century, in the 17th century, Blackwall Point gained notoriety as a location where pirates corpses were hung in cages as a deterrent to other would-be pirates. In the 1690s the Board of Ordnance established a magazine on the west side of the peninsula. Alongside the magazine was a wharf, a house and accommodation for the resident Storekeeper. By 1771 gunpowder was no longer stored at Greenwich, the peninsula was steadily industrialised from the early 19th century onwards. In 1857 a plan was presented to Parliament for a huge dock occupying much of the peninsula, connected to Greenwich Reach to the west and Bugsbys Reach to the east, but this came to nothing. Early industries included Henry Blakeleys Ordnance Works making heavy guns, with other sites making chemicals, submarine cables, iron boats, iron and steel. Henry Bessemer built a works in the early 1860s to supply the London shipbuilding industry. Later came oil mills, shipbuilding, boiler making, manufacture of Portland cement and linoleum, early in the 20th century came bronze manufacturers Delta Metals and works making asbestos and Molassine Meal animal feed. For over 100 years the peninsula was dominated by the gasworks which primarily produced town gas, the gasworks grew to 240 acres, the largest in Europe, also producing coke, tar and chemicals as important secondary products. The site had its own railway system connected to the main railway line near Charlton. There were two huge gas holders, of 8.6 and 12.2 million ft3, originally manufacturing gas from coal, the plant began to manufacture gas from oil in the 1960s. Its peak production of 400 million ft3 per day in the mid 1960s is believed to have been the largest of any site in the world. The discovery of gas reserves in the North Sea soon rendered the complex obsolete. On the eastern shore was Blackwall Point Power Station, the station from the 1890s was replaced in the 1950s by a new station which ceased operation about 1981

5. Купол тысячелетия – Located on the Greenwich Peninsula in South East London, England, the exhibition was open to the public from 1 January to 31 December 2000. The project and exhibition was the subject of political controversy as it failed to attract the number of visitors anticipated. All of the exhibition and associated complex has since been demolished. The dome still exists, and it is now a key feature of The O2. The Prime Meridian passes the edge of the Dome and the nearest London Underground station is North Greenwich on the Jubilee line. The dome is one of the largest of its type in the world, in plan view it is circular,365 m in diameter. It has become one of the United Kingdoms most recognisable landmarks and it can easily be seen on aerial photographs of London. Its exterior is reminiscent of the Dome of Discovery built for the Festival of Britain in 1951, the architect was Richard Rogers and the contractor was a joint venture company, McAlpine/Laing Joint Venture formed between Sir Robert McAlpine and Laing Management. The building structure was engineered by Buro Happold, and the roof structure weighs less than the air contained within the building. Although referred to as a dome it is not strictly one as it is not self-supporting, but is in fact a giant Big Top, for this reason, it has been disparagingly referred to as the Millennium Tent. The twelve posts represent the months of the year, another reference to time in its dimensions, alongside its height. The canopy is made of PTFE-coated glass fibre fabric, a durable and weather-resistant plastic and its symmetry is interrupted by a hole through which a ventilation shaft from the Blackwall Tunnel rises. The land was previously derelict and contaminated by toxic sludge from East Greenwich Gas Works that operated from 1889 to 1985, the clean-up operation was seen by the then Deputy Prime Minister Michael Heseltine as an investment that would add a large area of useful land to the crowded capital. The incoming Labour government elected in 1997 under Tony Blair greatly expanded the size, scope and it also significantly increased expectations of what would be delivered. Just before its opening Blair claimed the Dome would be a triumph of confidence over cynicism, boldness over blandness, in the words of BBC correspondent Robert Orchard, the Dome was to be highlighted as a glittering New Labour achievement in the next election manifesto. Fisher Athletic were a team interested in moving to the Dome. The Dome was planned to take over the functions performed by the London Arena and this is the function which The O2 Arena has now undertaken. Night Rain and Faith Festivals Calendar Self Portrait, sponsored by Marks & Spencer, sculpture design by Gerald Scarfe What we do, Work, the Journey Zone, outlining the history and development of transport, was one of the few singled out for praise

6. Ангел Севера – The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture, designed by Antony Gormley, located in Gateshead in Tyne and Wear, England. Completed in 1998, it is a sculpture of an angel,20 metres tall. The wings do not stand straight sideways, but are angled 3.5 degrees forward, Gormley did this to create a sense of embrace. It stands on a hill just to the north of Birtley, overlooking the A1 and A167 roads into Tyneside, work began on the project in 1994 and cost £800,000. Most of the funding was provided by the National Lottery. The Angel was finished on 16 February 1998, due to its exposed location, the sculpture was built to withstand winds of over 100 mph. Thus, foundations containing 600 tonnes of anchor the sculpture to rock 70 feet below. The sculpture was built at Hartlepool Steel Fabrications Ltd using COR-TEN weather-resistant steel and it was made in three parts—with the body weighing 100 tonnes and two wings weighing 50 tonnes each — then brought to its site by road. It took five hours for the body to be transported from its site in Hartlepool. The Angel aroused some controversy in British newspapers, at first, including a Gateshead stop the statue campaign, however, it has since been considered to be a landmark for North East England and has been listed by one organisation as an Icon of England. It has often used in film and television to represent Tyneside, as are other local landmarks such as the Tyne Bridge. The sculpture is known by some local people as the Gateshead Flasher, because of its location. Several maquettes were produced during the development stage of the project, a life-size model from which the sculpture was created was sold at auction for £2.28 million in July 2008. In 2011 German fashion designer Wolfgang Joop sold his life-size maquette at an auction at Christies in London for £3. 4m to an anonymous bidder, another maquette was donated to the National Gallery of Australia in 2009 and stands in its Sculpture Garden. Inspired by the Angel of the North, several projects have been proposed. The sculpture Brick Man was proposed for the Holbeck area of Leeds. org, archived from the original on 31 January 2008. 7. Случайное блуждание – A random walk is a mathematical object, known as a stochastic or random process, that describes a path that consists of a succession of random steps on some mathematical space such as the integers. As illustrated by examples, random walks have applications to many scientific fields including ecology, psychology, computer science, physics, chemistry. Random walks explain the behaviors of many processes in these fields. As a more mathematical application, the value of pi can be approximated by the usage of random walk in agent-based modelling environment, the term random walk was first introduced by Karl Pearson in 1905. Various types of walks are of interest, which can differ in several ways. The time parameter can also be manipulated, in the simplest context the walk is in discrete time, that is a sequence of random variables = indexed by the natural numbers. However, it is possible to define random walks which take their steps at random times. Specific cases or limits of random walks include the Lévy flight, Random walks are a fundamental topic in discussions of Markov processes. Their mathematical study has been extensive, several properties, including dispersal distributions, first-passage or hitting times, encounter rates, recurrence or transience, have been introduced to quantify their behaviour. A popular random walk model is that of a walk on a regular lattice. In a simple walk, the location can only jump to neighboring sites of the lattice. In simple symmetric random walk on a finite lattice, the probabilities of the location jumping to each one of its immediate neighbours are the same. The best studied example is of random walk on the integer lattice Z d. An elementary example of a walk is the random walk on the integer number line, Z. This walk can be illustrated as follows, a marker is placed at zero on the number line and a fair coin is flipped. If it lands on heads, the marker is moved one unit to the right, if it lands on tails, the marker is moved one unit to the left. After five flips, the marker could now be on 1, −1,3, −3,5, with five flips, three heads and two tails, in any order, will land on 1. There are 10 ways of landing on 1,10 ways of landing on −1,5 ways of landing on 3,5 ways of landing on −3,1 way of landing on 5, see the figure below for an illustration of the possible outcomes of 5 flips

8. Алгебра – Algebra is one of the broad parts of mathematics, together with number theory, geometry and analysis. In its most general form, algebra is the study of mathematical symbols, as such, it includes everything from elementary equation solving to the study of abstractions such as groups, rings, and fields. The more basic parts of algebra are called elementary algebra, the abstract parts are called abstract algebra or modern algebra. Elementary algebra is generally considered to be essential for any study of mathematics, science, or engineering, as well as such applications as medicine, abstract algebra is a major area in advanced mathematics, studied primarily by professional mathematicians. Elementary algebra differs from arithmetic in the use of abstractions, such as using letters to stand for numbers that are unknown or allowed to take on many values. For example, in x +2 =5 the letter x is unknown, in E = mc2, the letters E and m are variables, and the letter c is a constant, the speed of light in a vacuum. Algebra gives methods for solving equations and expressing formulas that are easier than the older method of writing everything out in words. The word algebra is used in certain specialized ways. A special kind of object in abstract algebra is called an algebra. A mathematician who does research in algebra is called an algebraist, the word algebra comes from the Arabic الجبر from the title of the book Ilm al-jabr wal-muḳābala by Persian mathematician and astronomer al-Khwarizmi. The word entered the English language during the century, from either Spanish, Italian. It originally referred to the procedure of setting broken or dislocated bones. The mathematical meaning was first recorded in the sixteenth century, the word algebra has several related meanings in mathematics, as a single word or with qualifiers. As a single word without an article, algebra names a broad part of mathematics, as a single word with an article or in plural, an algebra or algebras denotes a specific mathematical structure, whose precise definition depends on the author. Usually the structure has an addition, multiplication, and a scalar multiplication, when some authors use the term algebra, they make a subset of the following additional assumptions, associative, commutative, unital, and/or finite-dimensional. In universal algebra, the word refers to a generalization of the above concept. With a qualifier, there is the distinction, Without an article, it means a part of algebra, such as linear algebra, elementary algebra. With an article, it means an instance of some abstract structure, like a Lie algebra, sometimes both meanings exist for the same qualifier, as in the sentence, Commutative algebra is the study of commutative rings, which are commutative algebras over the integers

9. Бом, Дэвид – To complement it, he developed a mathematical and physical theory of implicate and explicate order. In this, his epistemology mirrored his ontology, due to his Communist affiliations, Bohm was the subject of a federal government investigation in 1949, prompting him to leave the United States. He pursued his career in several countries, becoming first a Brazilian. Bohm was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, United States, to a Hungarian Jewish immigrant father, Samuel Bohm, and he was raised mainly by his father, a furniture-store owner and assistant of the local rabbi. Despite being raised in a Jewish family, he became an agnostic in his teenage years, Bohm attended Pennsylvania State College, graduating in 1939, and then the California Institute of Technology, for one year. He then transferred to the physics group directed by Robert Oppenheimer at the University of California, Berkeley. Bohm lived in the neighborhood as some of Oppenheimers other graduate students. He was active in Communist and Communist-backed organizations, including the Young Communist League, the Campus Committee to Fight Conscription, during World War II, the Manhattan Project mobilized much of Berkeleys physics research in the effort to produce the first atomic bomb. Though Oppenheimer had asked Bohm to work with him at Los Alamos, Bohm remained in Berkeley, teaching physics, until he completed his Ph. D. in 1943 by an unusual circumstance. According to Peat, the calculations that he had completed proved useful to the Manhattan Project and were immediately classified. Without security clearance, Bohm was denied access to his own work, not only would he be barred from defending his thesis, to satisfy the university, Oppenheimer certified that Bohm had successfully completed the research. Bohm later performed theoretical calculations for the Calutrons at the Y-12 facility in Oak Ridge, after the war, Bohm became an assistant professor at Princeton University, where he worked closely with Albert Einstein. In May 1949, the House Un-American Activities Committee called upon Bohm to testify because of his previous ties to suspected Communists, Bohm invoked his Fifth amendment right to refuse to testify, and refused to give evidence against his colleagues. In 1950 Bohm was arrested for refusing to answer HUACs questions and he was acquitted in May 1951, but Princeton had already suspended him. His request to go to Manchester received Einsteins support but was unsuccessful, Bohm then left for Brazil to assume a professorship of physics at the University of São Paulo at Jayme Tiomnos invitation, and on Einsteins and Oppenheimers recommendation. During his early period, Bohm made a number of significant contributions to physics, particularly quantum mechanics, as a post-graduate at Berkeley, he developed a theory of plasmas, discovering the electron phenomenon known now as Bohm-diffusion. His first book, Quantum Theory, published in 1951, was received by Einstein. But Bohm became dissatisfied with the interpretation of quantum theory he had written about in that book

10. Метод конечных элементов – The finite element method is a numerical method for solving problems of engineering and mathematical physics. It is also referred to as finite element analysis, typical problem areas of interest include structural analysis, heat transfer, fluid flow, mass transport, and electromagnetic potential. The analytical solution of these problems generally require the solution to boundary value problems for partial differential equations, the finite element method formulation of the problem results in a system of algebraic equations. The method yields approximate values of the unknowns at discrete number of points over the domain, to solve the problem, it subdivides a large problem into smaller, simpler parts that are called finite elements. The simple equations that model these finite elements are assembled into a larger system of equations that models the entire problem. FEM then uses variational methods from the calculus of variations to approximate a solution by minimizing an associated error function, the global system of equations has known solution techniques, and can be calculated from the initial values of the original problem to obtain a numerical answer. To explain the approximation in this process, FEM is commonly introduced as a case of Galerkin method. The process, in language, is to construct an integral of the inner product of the residual. In simple terms, it is a procedure that minimizes the error of approximation by fitting trial functions into the PDE, the residual is the error caused by the trial functions, and the weight functions are polynomial approximation functions that project the residual. These equation sets are the element equations and they are linear if the underlying PDE is linear, and vice versa. In step above, a system of equations is generated from the element equations through a transformation of coordinates from the subdomains local nodes to the domains global nodes. This spatial transformation includes appropriate orientation adjustments as applied in relation to the coordinate system. The process is carried out by FEM software using coordinate data generated from the subdomains. FEM is best understood from its application, known as finite element analysis. FEA as applied in engineering is a tool for performing engineering analysis. It includes the use of mesh generation techniques for dividing a complex problem into small elements, FEA is a good choice for analyzing problems over complicated domains, when the domain changes, when the desired precision varies over the entire domain, or when the solution lacks smoothness. For instance, in a crash simulation it is possible to increase prediction accuracy in important areas like the front of the car. Another example would be in weather prediction, where it is more important to have accurate predictions over developing highly nonlinear phenomena rather than relatively calm areas
